Twelve castles in Ireland you can actually sleep in
Ireland has more castles per square mile than almost anywhere in Europe, and most of them hand you a ticket and send you home at five. These twelve hand you a key. All are open and taking bookings for two nights or more.
They’re ordered by what you’d expect to pay, and the spread is wider than people assume — from $150 a night half an hour from Dublin Airport to the estate that Time Out just named the most beautiful hotel in the world.
If any of these castles interest you, the agents at Dynamic Travel can get you booked not only at the castle (assuming it has availability) but also your rental car and a complete custom tour of Ireland. Just call them at 800 766-2911 or email stevec@dynamictravel.com.

The room number matters more here than anywhere
Half the castles on this list have rooms inside the medieval building and rooms in a courtyard, a lodge or a garden wing — and they are not the same stay. Guests who book the cheapest rate online routinely arrive to find they’re sleeping 80 metres from the castle they came for. Markree has 20 rooms. Ballyseede’s castle rooms are a fraction of the property. Lough Eske’s best rooms are in the tower.
We know which building each rate lands you in, we hold the direct relationships, and through our consortia we can often add breakfast, a dinner credit or an upgrade at no extra cost. Tell us your dates and how many nights you want inside the walls.
